From Apple’s press release…
Apple’s App Store Downloads Top Two Billion
…and, oh yeah, 85,000 apps. Sure, a lot of them are flashlights, those awful single-book-in-app, and endless variations of the classic iFart Mobile app. But, still, no one can deny that Apple’s iPhone/iPod touch app universe is a vibrant one that also helping some developers earn some decent profit.
In the meantime, what is going on with my long time favorite Windows Mobile (I’ve been using Windows CE/Windows mobile since 1997)? As TechFlash’s Todd Bishop puts it…
Apple’s head start: 85,000 apps
Windows Mobile’s app story is a sad one. Someone, maybe me, should write a story about how Microsoft blew at 11 year lead in the mobile market by not paying attention to their customers’ platform requests (I’ve asked for a bunch in person while visiting the Windows Mobile team over the past decade in Redmond only to be ignored).
Windows Mobile 6.5 is scheduled to launch next week. And, except for a few platform die-hards like me, almost no one will care or notice. In the meantime, I’ve got some iPhone apps to take a look at and write about here this week.
