Just in time for the 2010 Winter Olympics, we see Foursquare and The New York Times team up. No! Really? Who would have imagined this even a year ago? And, yet, it is true. Check out this link…
I’m not a fan of Foursquare or other social-location-network game-ish type services. In fact, I’ve been hoping to find a way to filter all those “I’m the mayor of” type messages for several months now. But, even I have to admit that combining Foursquare, the New York Times, the awesome locations around Vancouver BC like Whistler, and what should be an amazing 2010 Winter Olympics is a winner of an idea.
The New York Times says of this team-up: The Times will be offering recommendations for restaurants, popular attractions, shopping and nightlife in Vancouver, Whistler and the town of Squamish. The tips will be pulled from the Times’ travel and entertainment coverage on the cities. Foursquare users that check in at one of the suggested venues will earn a special New York Times Olympic badge.
Let the games begin!
