StoriesAlive Delivers Kid Friendly Books

Stories AliveDigital publisher Auryn has taken the wraps off its new kid-focused reading app, StoriesAlive.

The app is free and arrives with six free trial stories. After those freebies, users will need to pay a $7.99 monthly subscription fee to access more books. The reading app includes about 135 titles right now, including authors Suse MacDonald and Don Freeman to name a couple. It’s tailored toward kids ages 3 to 8, and is available for both the iPad and Android tablets. The interactive story app allows kids to choose whether they want the book read to them or to read it themselves. If they select the former, they can personalize the voice. Some titles include games, music, animation and other interactive elements. A built-in dictionary helps young readers build vocabulary.

No Internet connection is necessary once books are downloaded and stored. However, the app crashed several times when this reporter tried to read the first book available for download on iOS. A second book download did not result in the same repeated crashing.
