MobiTV, which launched one of the first mobile video services way back when, is crowing that it has reached the milestone of six million subscribers. The company’s mobile media service is available across 20 carrier networks around the world.
With more than 40 channels of content available, MobiTV attributes its growth to an increased number of consumers wanting to see actual television programs on their mobile devices, more types of smartphones with video capabilities and a growing trend toward bundling TV and radio services into mobile data plans.
“The biggest hurdle to adoption is no longer availability or technology,” said MobiTV chairman and CEO Charlie Nooney. “It is awareness, and as the market leader we’re poised to capitalize on increasing consumer demand for compelling, entertaining TV and video-on-demand for the mobile phone.”
