Taiwanese based Acer has been around for a long time (would you believe they were founded in 1976?). But, they are probably best known today for their popular low-cost Acer Aspire One line of netbooks. It looks like they are planning to release a Google Android based smartphone this Fall named the A1. This is, of course, the same platform used by the T-Mobile G1 (made by HTC) introduce in October 2008.
Acer said to introduce Android—equipped smartphone in September (BusinessMirror)
Acer previously announced that they are planning to release four smartphones based on the competing Microsoft Windows Mobile platform too (WMExperts). These phones are expected to become available next month. However, I have not heard of any U.S. carrier that will sell them as subsidized handsets.
