Add an Emoji Keyboard to Your iPhone or iPad

If you are tired of using the same old smiley and frowning text emoticons in email you type on an iPhone or iPad, hardware accessory company Griffin Technology shared a fun tip.

Surprise! There is an emoticon keyboard in iOS 5!

iOS 5 for the iPhone and iPad supports the selection of multiple layouts for its on-screen keyboard. This means you can get access to your default keyboard (the standard U.S. one in my case) as well as an alternate keyboard. The tip here is that you can select the Japanese Emoji keyboard as an alternate international keyboard.

You can do this by:

- Going to the iOS settings
- Select General
- Select Keyboard
- Select International Keyboards
- Scroll down the list until you find Emoji and choose it

The globe key on the bottom row of the on-screen keyboard can switch between the default keyboard and the Emoji keyboard.
