February was smartphone month in terms of mobile Web traffic. According to the latest AdMob Mobile Metrics report, smartphones accounted for 33% of all mobile Web usage, up from 26% six months ago.
AdMob attributes a significant amount of the increase in mobile Web page requests in the US to the launch of the G1 Android-based handset and the BlackBerry Storm.
Worldwide, the top five smartphones in terms of mobile Web traffic are:
* iPhone
* Nokia N70
* BlackBerry 8300
* Nokia N80
* Nokia N73
In the US, the top five are:
* iPhone
* BlackBerry Curve
* BlackBerry Pearl
* Palm Centro
* HTC Dream (aka the T-Mobile G1)
Since it’s the top smartphone in the US and the world, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that the iPhone generated 33% of worldwide smartphone traffic and 50% of smartphone traffic in the US. The Android platform is starting to gain a little bit of traction; it accounted for 5% of US smartphone traffic in February, according to AdMob’s stats.
