Adobe Flash Player 10.1 Beta for Android OS 2.2 an Underwhelming Experience

When I read this Adobe Labs blog item last week (May 20)

Adobe Flash Player 10.1 beta for Android (2.2) FroYo now available

I guessed I would be able to try it in June or July when Android OS 2.2 might be released. Obviously, I guessed wrong since Froyo began dribbling out last week Friday. So, here I am with a Nexus One updated to Android OS 2.2 and Adobe Flash Player 10.1 beta installed.

So, now what? What amazing Adobe Flash powered site that I couldn’t access previously do I visit?

- YouTube? Wait, that was already accesible?
- Hulu? Nope, Hulu blocks mobile devices.
- Flash powered game sites? Oh sure, these site designed for use on a desktop or notebook screen to be played with a mouse will look and work great on a small phone screen with a touch interface. Not!

So, I pointed the Nexus One’s browser at Adobe’s Flash site:

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

It took what seemed like forever (possibly up to two minutes) over a 3G data connection before the site’s Flash content downloaded, slowly appeared and began to play. It was, quite frankly, an underwhelming experience.
