In an amusing and total contradiction to the CNET News story we blogged about an hour ago, MediaPost is reporting that Mobile E-mail over everyday cell phones is about to become a huge growth area, according to a new white paper prepared by consultants Frost & Sullivan for mobile open source software firm Funambol.
F&S Vice President and Chief Analyst J. Gerry Purdy, the report’s co-author, said in the article that “consumer email will join enterprise email as standard on mobile devices in the coming years.”
This is no surprise to most who follow the wireless industry — the ruckus surrounding the iPhone’s easy e-mail access is just the latest example.
So which is more important? Mobile E-mail or instant messaging? Of course, the answer is that both will be important in the coming years. Despite the iPhone, BlackBerrys, and other devices that make it somewhat easier, most cell phones on the market are still horrible at both tasks.
