Airbnb Acquires Local Information Platform Localmind

airbnb, localmind, social networksAirbnb has acquired Localmind, a platform that allows users to share information in real time about what’s going on at a particular place, the company said today.

Localmind relies on check-ins from Foursquare and other services to determine who is at a particular place and delivers questions about the place to those users.

“This acquisition means that everything related to Localmind – including technology, intellectual property, product, and (of course!) the Localmind team – are now part of Airbnb,” the comapny said.

The Localmind staff is made up of Lenny Rachitsky, Beau Haugh and Nelson Gauthier.

The Localmind team is already at work “integrating new social initiatives into the Airbnb experience,” according to the announcement.

Airbnb unrolled a Neighborhoods program last month, indicating that it wanted to be able to provide an authentic, non-touristy experience to its users visiting other cities.
