The new flat-rate pricing plan war isn’t the only news coming from the mobile carriers this week. Alltel said that its location-based services are now available to its subscribers wherever they roam across the States. InformationWeek reports that before the cellco enhanced its roaming network, its GPS and LBS apps didn’t work in some parts of the country.
Thanks to the enhancements, Alltel customers with GPS-enabled handset can now use its TeleNav GPS Navigator, Alltel Navigation, Alltel Where and other GPS apps in more than 45 major metro areas, InformationWeek says.
Subscribers may have nationwide access to more services than before, but they still have to deal with roaming charges when traveling.
