Alltel has launched a new app called Alltel Social Video, which lets users share and rate videos from a variety of sources.
For $2.99 a month, Alltel customers with video-capable phones can watch videos from such sites as Break.com, AtomFilms and GrindTV. Once they’ve viewed a video, users can decide to rate it or use the “Send-to-Friend” feature to share it. Viewers can also search for videos across the different channels, create custom playlists and set up distribution lists for sharing.
The service was built in partnership with mobile video services provider Transpera, whose platform, it claims, was the first to enable companies to “monetize Web video on mobile phones.”
