Apple’s iTunes iPhone & iPad App Store is not perfect. But, for the most part, it is easy to use and gets the job done whether on the desktop, iPhone, or iPad. Google’s Android Market for Android apps, on the other hand,is marginally better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. That said, it improved slightly when it was upgraded recently. So, I was thrilled to learn that Amazon launched its Amazon Appstore Developer Program for Android app developers.

Introducing the Amazon Appstore Developer Portal

I think Amazon’s proven ecommerce skills will make their Appstore my chosen destination for Android apps when it launches later this year. In addition to a better Android app shopping experience, it may also provide Android devices that do not have access to Google’s Android Market a more accessible app shopping alternative. And, if you are a developer, here’s some good news: Amazon will waive the $99 program fee for the first year if you join now. So, please head over there. I want to stop using Google’s Android Market ASAP.
