Amazon Launches Kindle In Japan

Amazon is bringing the Kindle to Japan. The Kindle Paperwhite, the Kindle Fire and the Kindle Fire HD will be available at Amazon.co.jp, as well as through a number of Japanese retailers including: K’s Holdings, Bic Camera, Joshin Denki, and Kitamura.

To sell media on these devices, Amazon is also opening a Kindle Store in Japan. The Japanese Kindle store launches on October 25th more than a million titles in Japanese, English and other languages. The store will feature more than 15,000 manga titles.

Amazon is not the first North American eReader company to enter the Japanese market. Kobo, the Canadian eBook company that is owned by the Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten, launched in Japan this past summer.
