Today Amazon announced a major milestone for the Kindle Store. eBooks are now the most popular format on Amazon.com, outselling the combined sales of hardback and paperback books. Since April 1, for every 100 print books Amazon has sold, it has sold 105 Kindle books.

It took Amazon just over 3 years to make that statement come true, and it represents the tipping point. Digital has won out over analog. The future has arrived.

BTW, a careful reading of the press release reveals a certain interesting detail. It doesn’t mention magazines and newspapers, which suggests that sales of periodicals are still lagging.
