amazon.jpgAmazon has been a powerhouse in CD sales over the past decade. But now they’re getting ready to finally launch their online music store, according to an Engadget report.

The report says the target date is mid-September. This coincides with an earlier report which stated that Amazon will sell (unprotected) DRM-free tracks in MP3 format.

There’s lots of news on the online media store front lately, including the NBC/Apple spat, the Universal/Apple spat, the big EMI move earlier this year, and some studio efforts to reduce Apple’s power in online sales. While it’s still early in the game, all of this shuffling of position will have a dramatic effect on consumer’s ability to play media on their mobile devices.
