Americans Spend an Hour a Day on Smartphones

The average American adult spends 58 minutes a day using his or her smartphone — and just 15 minutes of it is talking, according to a study released today by Experian.

Americans spend 9 minutes on average using social networks, 12 minutes texting, 8 minutes browsing the Web, 5 minutes emailing, just under 5 minutes playing games and a little over a minute using the phone or GPS features.

iPhone users spend significantly more time on their phones than Android users. They text more and talk less.

“Smartphone users may constantly debate which operating system is supreme, but we see clear differences between the ways consumers use their phone depending on the operating system that runs it,” said John Fetto, senior marketing manager for the Experian’s consumer insights group.
