Hi ThinkMobile readers - all the great mobile apps, devices and reviews are now a part of mediabistro's SocialTimes.com. Thanks for reading!

Wirelessinfo.com reports that Amp’d hung on a bit longer than expected.

First, the company’s lines were supposed to go silent on July 23rd. Later, that was extended to July 31st. Then — we know you’re on the edge of your seat here — two days after the company was supposed to finally shut down, the service was still running, thanks to a last minute agreement with another small carrier called Prexar, Wirelessinfo.com reports. “[Prexar] bought the right to market to the remaining customers of Amp’d, and are trying to persuade post-paid users to switch over to their service.”

The last word was that Amp’d would finally shut down on August 2nd. The company stopped updating their Web site a while back, customer service stopped answering phones two weeks ago, and we don’t know anyone who uses Amp’d to see if their phone still works. Maybe that was part of the problem.

To the mobile-media obsessed who originally went with Amp’d: we hear the iPhone is pretty good at that sort of thing.
