Amtrak just launched an iPhone Web App, powered by Usablenet, which the company said will cater to 34 percent of its current mobile Web users.
“The iPhone Web App is enhanced for iPhone and iPod Touch customers, providing a rich, smooth user interface. Amtrak’s mobile website allows customers to buy, change and manage ticket reservations, check train statuses and review schedules.”
A dedicated Web app can offer a deeper, more intuitive interface than a WAP page, although many companies have gone with dedicated iPhone WAP sites that give a pretty convincing impersonation of a native app. The Amtrak iPhone Web App and mobile site is located at www.amtrak.mobi.
