Civil rights have come a long way since Oscar Wilde was on trial for sodomy. In honor of New York legalizing gay marriage, today’s Free eBook of the Day is An Ideal Husband by Oscar Wilde.

The play is about blackmail and political corruption and public and private honor. Wilde’s name was taken off of the play when it was published because of his controversial trial. Here is an excerpt from the work: “Optimism begins in a broad grin, and Pessimism ends with blue spectacles.  Besides, they are both of them merely poses.”
