Here’s a plan we can get behind. Wireless research analyst Iain Gillott thinks that Verizon and the other carriers have it all wrong about mobile TV. Instead of us paying them on a per-view or subscription basis in order to watch TV, he makes a strong case for content providers to pay the carriers to distribute programming to us for free instead.
Then the content providers can work out how to fit ads into the programming so they can earn profits. In other words, make it similar to the way terrestrial TV programming operates. The ads would be worth more, since consumers are likely to actually be watching their phone, instead of (as Gillott put it) in the other room making a sandwich during commercials.
