Anti-Mormon Tweet Costs KTVX Employee a Job

If you’re going to poke fun at a religion, don’t use the company Twitter account to do so. That was the lesson learned by a staffer from ABC Salt Lake City affiliate KTVX, as The Salt Lake Tribune‘s Culture Vulture blog reports that a Saturday-morning Tweet resulted in another addition to the unemployment line.

According to Culture Vulture, at around 10 a.m. Saturday, a Tweet went out over the KTVX Twitter feed saying, “I’m downtown eating. Surrounded by Mormons and repressed sexual energy.” It was quickly deleted, but Culture Vulture captured a screen grab (pictured).

KTVX offered an apology via its Twitter feed that afternoon, Tweeting, “A personal Tweet went out that in no way is consistent with the station views. This issue has been addressed and we apologize for the Tweet.” General manager Matt Jaquint later told Culture Vulture, “The employee has offered their resignation, and we have accepted it,” declining to identify the employee but saying it was not an on-air personality.
