iPodfamily.jpgThe game has changed. For a new band to break out into the mainstream, having a video on MTV was of paramount importance, but now things are different. According to this WSJ article, the iTunes Store can serve the same function by featuring a new band on the store home page. It’s equivalent to showing off a CD in a display rack at the front of a Virgin Megastore.

It’s amazing to think that in a few short years, the model for listening to music transitioned from MTV or Radio -> Music Store -> Home Stereo or Portable CD player, to iTunes Store -> Downloads -> Computer and Portable MP3 player. But that’s essentially what happened.
