Apple Removes Barbie-like Plastic Surgery App After Internet Backlash

Apple’s app approval process must have been broken for this liposuction app to slip through – it’s a plastic surgery app marketed towards children ages 9 and older. Needless to say, this app description has all of the signals of an inappropriate product:

This unfortunate girl has so much extra weight that no diet can help her. In our clinic she can go through a surgery called liposuction that will make her slim and beautiful. We’ll need to make small cuts on problem areas and suck out the extra fat. Will you operate her, doctor?

Released in the app store on January 6, 2014, the app somehow lasted for days until Everyday Sexism started a Twitter campaign to have the app removed.

This is not the first time apps have been removed for being inappropriate. The Make Me Asian App suffered the same fate when a petition for its removal garnered over 8,000 signatures on Change.org.
