Arizona Introduces Bill For eBook Privacy at Libraries

The Arizona Legislature has introduced a bill that would add eBooks to the state’s existing library privacy law. Under the current state law, it is illegal for officials to disclose a patron’s public library records. This new measure would require that a citizen’s eBook check outs remain private.

The Associated Press has more: “Officials who release information about someone’s requested or checked out library material face misdemeanor charges in Arizona. The law does allow library records to be accessed if required by law or a court order.”

The Arizona Senate is expected to further the bill this week. The House already approved it in March with a 57-1 vote.
