Say it isn’t so! I really really hope this EeeUser.com warning is wrong…
The Asus T91 Series may be threatened
EeeUser.com reports that Asus will evaluate sales of the currently available non-multitouch T91 touchscreen netbook to decide whether or not to proceed with production of follow-up models like the multi-touch enabled T91A. Here’s the problem in their logic though. People who want a good touchscreen netbook (like me) know about the multi-touch enabled T91A and its dependency on Windows 7′s touch support. So, why would we buy the Windows XP powered single touch T91 model today when we can wait until Windows 7 launches in October?
Asus has another problem too though: Apple. If the much rumored but never seen Apple netpad/tablet product becomes available this fall, them market for high-end ($500+) touch screen netbooks like the T91A may disappear. The rumored Apple tablet price of $800 may seem high compared to the $300 to $400 typical price for conventional netbooks. However, $800 may be viewed favorably compared to a $500 to $700 touchscreen netbook.
