BBC to Launch U.S. News Site

BBCLogo.jpgThe British Broadcasting Corp. is making a big move in the former British colonies, as it is set to launch U.S.-focused news site BBC.com Thursday, with a staff of about 10 journalists producing the site from its bureau in Washington, D.C., AdAge.com reports.

BBC.com currently defaults to U.K. home page BBC.co.uk, but that will change Thursday, as BBC.com senior vice president Miranda Cresswell told AdAge.com:

We want to build on the momentum of our business. We tripled ad revenue last year from the year before, and we plan on doubling this year. We were listening to what advertisers and the audience was telling us in terms of what they needed, and the launch of BBC.com is a response to those needs.

Given our presence around the world, we can provide a global perspective on U.S. stories. The American news team will draw on all our other reporters.
