Did Beezid Pay Too Much For Their Lindsay Lohan House Arrest Promo?

Penny auction website Beezid.com is making headlines today because of a new promo they released on YouTube yesterday starring Lindsay Lohan, who is currently on house arrest.  The video features Lohan, seated on a couch next to a laptop featuring the Beezid website, half-heartedly recommending Beezid to all her “friends.”  But Lohan’s house arrest cameo isn’t the big news—the big news is how much Beezid paid to get Lohan to make the 14-second spot.  Beezid is rumored to have paid Lohan upwards of $25,000, and that’s not including $10,000 in credits that she can use on the Beezid site.

The news of this pricy viral video hit TMZ and PopEater yesterday afternoon.  PopEater’s Kiki Von Glinow wrote that “Lohan was originally thrown $25K for the gig but in the end, the initial offer was reportedly far too minimal a free for the 14 second spot.  While the revised fee has not been disclosed, Lohan was also given a $10,000 credit to spend on the site.”  In addition to the video, which is embedded below, Lohan also tweeted about Beezid yesterday morning.

The question that begs to be asked is, was $25,000 plus a reasonable price for Beezid to pay for Lindsay Lohan?  Commenters on YouTube have certainly had some entertaining responses to this question:

But I think that that last comment is the one that we have to focus on here—“How did Beezid pony up the money for this?  I never heard of them AT ALL until today!”  This commenter had never heard of Beezid before today, I had never heard of Beezid before today and it’s likely that many of the nearly 100,000 people who have viewed the video so far (and the hundreds of thousands more that are likely to) had never heard of Beezid before today either.  But now they have.  And, if they are anything like me, seeing the video got them to go to Beezid.com to see just what this fuss was all about.  Getting a tweet out to Lohan’s 2.1 million Twitter follows couldn’t be bad for business either, eh?

Despite the fact that Lohan looks a little bit like somebody forced her to do this commercial and that she clearly only shot one take and sounds entirely insincere, I think Beezid is definitely getting their money’s worth if creating a buzz is what they were after.  People might laugh in their faces for paying so much for Lindsay Lohan, but at least people know who they are now.  That being said, only time will tell exactly how this campaign will play out and what the ROI will be for Beezid.

What do you think?  Did Beezid pay too much for Lindsay Lohan?
