PopCap Games announced on Tuesday that it will begin distributing Bejeweled Twist on cell phones in North American and Europe beginning in April 2009, MediaPost reports.
The game will sport four modes: Classic, Blitz, Challenge and Zen. “Rather than swapping adjacent jewels to make a set, for example, players of Bejeweled Twist can rotate an entire block of gems clockwise in an effort to create a line of three or more identical gems,” the report said. “Players can rotate pieces freely anywhere on the board because there is no longer a need to match gems with every move. New gem types include Flame, Lightning and Fruit, which produces fiery explosions and other powerful effects.”
Publishers are looking for new ways to distinguish mobile versions of titles. For example, last week Namco announced a multi-player version of Pac-Man to capitalize on the game’s already strong fan base on cell phones.
