Hi ThinkMobile readers - all the great mobile apps, devices and reviews are now a part of mediabistro's SocialTimes.com. Thanks for reading!

I’ve said it many times before and will continue to say it: I love lists of just about anything. And, I love lists with some interesting data to back it up even more. Here’s one from Nielsen (they of the TV watching stats fame)…

Top Mobile Phones, Sites and Brands for 2009

Their top 10 list of mobile phones for the first 10 months of 2009 is not too surprising. Apple’s iPhone 3G is #1 followed by a mix of BlackBerry phones and, mostly, LG feature phones. But, let’s collapse some of the data and take a slightly different look at the list.

RIM has three BlackBerry models in the list. So, let’s combine their market share. LG owns 4 of the top 10 phones. So, let’s combine their market share too. Here’s what the top three (8 of the top 10 phones) looks like after this little bit of arithmetic:

1. LG 6.4%
2. RIM 6.3%
3. Apple 4.0%

The 8 phones from these three firms account for 16.7% of the total market if Nielsen’s data is accurate.
