Bitcasa Emerges From Beta, Promising Instant Access to Infinite Storage

file sharing, cloud storage, social networks, social media, facebook, twitter, pinterestBitcasa cloud storage service emerged from beta today and launched an iOS app.

It launched its public beta in June, but the service was not available for iOS users.

Bitcasa promises quick access to infinite storage from mobile and desktop devices. The service relies on virtualization technology to promise unlimited file storage. Bitcasa streams the files a user requests from the cloud, so file size can exceed the storage limits of the device. Data is encrypted on the client-side rather than the server side, so neither Bitcasa nor a law enforcement officer with a subpoena can access user files, according to the company.

The company has received $8.5 million in funding from investors such as Andreessen Horowitz, First Round, CrunchFund and Samsung Ventures.

It has 17 petabytes of data under management, according to CEO Tony Gauda.

Users pay $10 a month for the service.
