BMI, the leading US performing rights organization, has released its annual mobile music market projections for 2008. It expects some serious growth in US ringback tone revenue – $210 million, which is up 50% over 2007′s estimated $140 million.
At the same time, BMI sees continuing declines in the more traditional ringtone market, with sales of only $510 million in 2008, down roughly $40 million, or 7%, from last year. This will be the second consecutive year that US ringtone revenue has fallen.
BMI’s figures are based on data derived from the buying behavior of more than 200 million US mobile subscribers.
