box_logoOnline file sharing and uploading site Box.net has just received a site redesign. The new site interface now sports a more vibrant and fresh look to make collaboration among businessess and even individuals easier. Along with the site redesign are new features that’s leading the site to becoming more social. For those not in the loop about what the site does, Box.net is a cloud computing service that aims to help you to access, work with, and share all of your content wherever they are. It’s a paid service though, so unless you are in dire need of a file cloud computing solution, you might want to study first whether the cost of Box.net subscription service will be worth the things you’re going to use the service for.   The good thing is, Box.net offers a free trial, so you might want to check it out first before subscribing to the service.

Going to the new features of Box.net, the site just introduced a fresh look and expanded view. The interface is now cleaner and more professionally looking. Best of this new design is the expanded view which now includes a sidebar which contain other Box.net users who are collaborating on a specific project file. Using the sidebar, you can send those peope a message, see their picture as well as change their access permission to your files.

Next new feature is a more comprehensive profile page which you can play around with to give other users a glimpse of who you are. The new profile page also now includes RSS feeds of your co-workers’ activities, including files they have uploaded, comments they’ve made and their participations in ongoing discussions.

Other new features of Box.net include the discussion where you and your co-workers can collaborate on the progress of your project relating to the file you have uploaded and shared with them, and the Bookmarking facility which you can use to maintain a set of web links which you like to share with others.

I’ve personally used Box.net before when one of my business contacts shared a file, and I would have to say that I was pretty impressed by the simple and fast service that Box.net offers. It is certainly a nice solution to only for big business collaborative project work, but also for individuals who wants to share and back important files.
