One of the newest virtual management games to hit the scene is Disco Empire which has been in beta since earlier last month. The genre is quite popular among developers and we’re seeing a lot of different themes including a recent chocolate production and selling game we reviewed called Sweet Factory by PlayFirst, with a similar look and feel. The game is currently at 4,000 MAUs and expected to grow. Read more after the jump.
Analogous to games like Cafe World and Nightclub City, Disco Empire takes an avatar-based approach with the goal of making and selling drinks. A player begins with a small restaurant / bar with a dancing area, tables and some sofas. Drinks are prepared by clicking on shelves. Each shelf can handle one order of drinks such as Sangrias, Beers, and a variety of other alcoholic and cafe beverages. Once drinks are prepared they are placed on a table automatically by clicking on ‘serve’ which customers then come in and grab.
It’s important to keep your place furnished or else risking annoyed customers. What’s cool is that you can kick customers but you wouldn’t want to kick happy customers. Asides from upgrading and expanding your club, you can add a lot of regular and premium decor in the categories of tables, chairs, walls, doors, floors, dance floors and extras. The game also seems to be using SuperRewards monetization platform.
Overall it seems like the developers wanted to blend the fun of Nightclub City with appointment based mechanics found in games like Cafe World and they’ve managed to create a decent game. The dance floor areas looks a bit strange on top of a wooden floor finish and the game seems to be a bit lackluster overall. The dancing element is devoid of the ingenuity of NightClub City but since the game recently launched, we expect the game to introduce more interesting and social elements asides from gifting in order to stand out.
