Mobile streaming media service Buzzwire and online stand-up and sketch comedy channel RooftopComedy have hooked up in a deal that lets Buzzwire offer clips from RooftopComedy performances via mobile phones.
For starters, Buzzwire will deliver clips from the two-day Aspen RooftopComedy Festival taking place this weekend. It will also feature stand-up comedy from clubs across the US and UK and allow viewers to create their own personalized mobile channels and share their favorite RooftopComedy clips.
“Comedy was the original driver of viral videos, and it continues to be the most popular format online,” Buzzwire CEO Andrew MacFarlane said in a statement. “Together with RooftopComedy, we’re taking these stand-up performances mobile, with anytime access that is instantly sharable.”
Buzzwire eventually plans to charge for its service, but it’s still offering a free trial.
