Just in case you thought falling music sales in the U.S. were an anomaly, Pro Sound News is reporting that Canadian music sales are off 35 percent in the first three months of 2007. That’s a drop that dwarfs our own 21.5 percent fall during the same time period.

The 35 percent this quarter is on top of the overall 12 percent drop during the calendar year 2006 in Canada compared with 2005.

“The impact of shrinking sales is being felt in almost every corner of the music business, by Canadian and foreign artists, music labels of all sizes, retailers and their employees,” according to the report.
