WTF! Social Media Propels Oxford Dictionary To Accept OMG, LOL and More

Instant Messaging clients like Messenger and ICQ once made terms like WTF and LOL mainstream, as they were used in person-to-person chats, but it can be said that the rise of social media has meant that these terms now live in the public domain, and are becoming ubiquitous in today’s culture. Oxford Dictionary agrees, as they’ve added a whole slew of WTF words to the library.

New 'Facebook Yearbook' Prints All Your Posts, Updates and Photos

The internet has a memory.

Perhaps we don’t think about it as often as we should – you know, that time you allowed yourself to be tagged in that photo where your guzzling from a keg, or that time you uploaded that video of you and your friends taboozing on new year’s eve – but nevertheless, each time we update our status or write on a friend’s wall, we’re recording our digital histories.

YearlyLeaf.com has created a market for Facebook users interested in printing a tangible hard-copy of their Facebook life. The book, which is bound with a moleskine cover, captures one year’s worth of status updates, wall posts, and pictures, creating keepsake digital autobiographies for Facebook users.

The project is the brainchild of Mark Michael, who had the idea for YearlyLeaf when he realized how much of his life was uploaded onto Facebook. “Last year,” he tells me in an e-mail, “I traveled to Maui, Aruba, Puerto Vallarta, Panama, I started a blog, I spoke at two conferences, took up competitive sailing, got my brother on a reality TV show, attended eight concerts, walked a charity race, bought a car, turned twenty-eight and got engaged.”

Michael wanted to create a coffee table book that can be classified as both a conversation piece as well as a personal archive: “Until now” he says, “most of my memories were posted in the form of status updates and pictures [on Facebook].”

Yearly Leaf is in the early stages of launching their website, and is offering their luxury bound books at a reasonable price. For more information, or to order yours, visit YearlyLeaf.com

Is Facebook the World's Biggest Rockstar?

Since the release of ‘The Social Network’, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has given the world a name to attach to the social networking phenomenon(since the face attached belongs to Jesse Eisenberg – let’s be honest). But in watching where the public’s obsession, idolatry and all out fanaticism lies, it’s not at all out of line to suggest that we’re seeing something without precedent: it’s Facebook itself that’s the real celebrity.

Gary Vaynerchuk Releases Book, Becomes a Hit on Amazon

My really good friend Gary Vaynerchuk made big announcement today: his book has gone for sale on Amazon. It is now available for pre-order and has hit the top 300 books on Amazon. The goal? To hit the Top 100. If anybody can get their book to the top 100, Gary Vaynerchuk can and it makes a great case study for the impact of social media. The best part is that the book only costs $13.57.

If you want to get an early copy go grab it on Amazon. The most amazing part is just through his announcement on his show today, the book has reached the top 300 on Amazon. I have no idea how good the book is but given Gary’s enthusiasm about wine I can guarantee you that a lot of passion went into the writing of it.

Gary is a great find of mine so I had to help him out and “link it up”. If you don’t know much about Gary then you need to check out his show Winelibrary TV as well as his personal blog Gary Vaynerchuk. Gary is one of the most passionate people I know and is a true symbol of social media self-promotion. Check out his video below if you don’t know much about him.
