Apple Patent Suggests their Cloud Will be the Fluffiest of All

In a recent article on the status of the could music battle between Amazon, Google and Apple, I tendered my opinion that victory wouldn’t be based on chronological order, but on a litany of factors. I also touched on the fact that Apple has a storied history of entering the market later than competitors with a superior product and almost immediately leaving said competitors to fight for a very distant second place. Well I’m not one who revels in saying ‘I told you so’ (that’s an absolute lie, I love it) but a recently unearthed patent application strongly suggests that Apple’s cloud-based music service could be a game changer.

A Status Report On The Cloud Music Warzone

I don’t care if you’re a war buff or what sport you’re into, you’re going to be hard pressed to find a more back and forth battle than that for supremacy of the cloud music market right now. Increasing definitive headlines all proved to be premature: “Amazon wins cloud war”, “Google and Apple will acquire licensing before releasing music lockers” and “Apple to beat Google on cloud music.” Now that the dust is somewhat beginning to settle, the only thing that can be said with complete surety is that the enormous number of variables involved promises a very interesting future for the business of cloud computing.

The Winklevoss Twins Appeal Again. No, I’m Not Kidding.

I’ll be honest here. If I had been given $65 million in a settlement, then discovered I was owed more, I’d probably try to get that extra moolah too. If that was actually the direct chronological order of events and the litigation had ended with their appeal, I’d probably say to the Winklevoss twins: “Well, worth a try boys. I hope you get by on your paltry $65m somehow.” But the full facts are what makes most people see the Winklevii as giant d-bags, and have the world blinking in disbelief as their attempts to appeal the courts once again. Let me repeat that. They’re appealing again. continued…

The Laughable Facebook Lawsuit Has Suddenly Become an Armani Tuxedo

Oh, ‘The Social Network’. What a great film. I bet the studio wishes it could do a sequel to that bad boy – I know all of us moviegoers do. Well, while that doesn’t look anymore likely than it did before, there may be fodder for a prequel emerging. On June 30, 2010, disgraced businessman and convicted felon Paul Ceglia filed a lawsuit against Facebook and Mark Zuckerman claiming, in short, to own 84% of Facebook. After the world had a good chuckle, the case was all but forgotten. Well, he’s back with a new legal team and new evidence. And while the evidence is far from conclusive, nobody’s laughing anymore.

Meme Alert — ‘Chicks with Steve Bucemeyes’ Spells It That Way For A Reason

Depending on the type of person you are, I know what you’re thinking – nay, praying. You’re either hoping that the title ‘Chicks with Steve Bucemeyes’ isn’t a misspelling and it’s something – anything other than girls with Steve Buscemi’s eyes slapped on them, or you’re hoping the missing ‘s’ is just a typo, because that kind of disturbing tomfoolery amuses you. Well, score one for the latter group. And if you’re prone to bad dreams, you may want to avoid hitting the link.

GoLiveCampus.com Gives Schools Safe Access to YouTube Content

For parents or teachers, YouTube and other social networking sites can be a double-edged sword. Though they are rich with educational content, they also contain explicit videos, inappropriate comments and ads. But now, there is a way for users to safely access educational content on YouTube and Web 2.0. They can use a filtering program called GoLiveCampus.com by iBoss Web Filters.

Parents of kids who like to surf on the Internet might be able to breathe a little easier. The popular children’s television network Nickelodeon is raising its voice to educate kids on digital bullying. Nick, the popular TV network for kids ages 2 to 14, began an on-air public service campaign today. The campaign features some of its stars offering advice on what kids can do when confronted with hostile texts, emails or Facebook posts.

A Teen Speaks: Real Friends Versus Facebook Friends

Friend: it’s a term flung around loosely in this day and age, especially among teenagers. Just like love and hate, and several obscene names that were once considered extremely offensive. All it takes is one walk down the school corridor to know that terms such as these, ones that my parents and the generation before us felt held strong meanings, now have no such power. continued…

WTF! Social Media Propels Oxford Dictionary To Accept OMG, LOL and More

Instant Messaging clients like Messenger and ICQ once made terms like WTF and LOL mainstream, as they were used in person-to-person chats, but it can be said that the rise of social media has meant that these terms now live in the public domain, and are becoming ubiquitous in today’s culture. Oxford Dictionary agrees, as they’ve added a whole slew of WTF words to the library.

Let’s face it: these days, when someone says they’re going to search something online, they might as well go ahead say they’re going to “Google it.” The stats clearly show that Google has no real competitors in computer based searching, and when it comes to mobile search, the two words are truly synonymous at an astonishing 97% going to Google. As a result, when the search engine giant targets you as an undesirable search result, its’ a big deal. Just ask JC Penney.

According to Hollywood Reporter, he is calling them bad business, but saying he is cautiously optimistic.
