Is Social Media Turning You Into a Psychopath? [Infographic]

Social media users share 4 traits in common with psychopaths, according to the makers of this infographic. To say that excessive social media use will send the average user down a slippery slope of fraud, hate crimes, and murder is a big stretch, but some of the statistics cited in this graph do show how differently people behave when they’re looking at their friends on a screen. More than half (51 percent) of the respondents in one survey said that social media had not changed their lives for the better. Here’s why.

13 Reasons Why Your Brain Craves Infographics

Colorful and concise, infographics are the brain candy of the internet. They’re not always accurate, they’re not always pretty, but the good ones inform as well as entertain — and for good reason. A recent study revealed that people are fielding the equivalent of 174 newspapers worth of data every day through the internet, television, and smartphones. Visualizing the information helps with understanding and retention, research has shown. NeoMam has released its first-ever HTML5 infographic to explain the science behind the growing trend. Click on the preview to watch the animation unfold.

How to Use Social Media to Manage a Crisis [Infographic]

Who can use social media tools to manage a crisis? Some emergency situations, like an earthquake, are felt on a global level, while others affect a single company or an organization. The makers of this infographic have made a case for using social media to both spread information during a real-world emergency as well as manage a PR crisis online.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), for example, has recovered 98.5% of the missing children for whom they have posted AMBER alerts since 2005, thanks in part to its social media campaigns on Facebook and Twitter.

Everyone makes mistakes — even charities — but social media can help restore a brand’s credibility if the situation is handled correctly. In 2011, the Red Cross turned a rogue Tweet about drinking Dogfish Beer into a fundraiser by partnering with the beer company to ask their followers to make a donation.

See more statistics and tips in the infographic below.

This infographic contains fun facts like who was the most talked-about dead character and which was the most social user-generated post. There’s also a breakdown of which shows GOT fans are also likely to watch.

National Donut Day: Random, Fun Facts About Donuts [Infographic]

Today is National Donut Day, and several brands, including Dunkin’ Donuts and Krispy Kreme, are offering free donuts (watch out for conditions though). The fine folks over at WhitePages have created an infographic with random, fun facts about donuts.

For example, did you know that:

• Ten people who live in the United States have the last name Doughnut or Donut?;
• Four-hundred-and-seventy people are named Fritter?;
• Boston has one donut shop for every 2,480 people making it the most donut-crazed city in the United States, and Long Beach, Calif., comes in second; and
• The top donut destination is VooDoo Doughnuts in Portland, Ore.

Dunkin’ Donuts is requiring customers to purchase any size beverage to get a free donut, and Tim Hortons is taking advantage of National Donut Day to engage people on social media – they’re requiring customers to like their Facebook page and print out a coupon that gets them a free donut with the purchase of one other item. Lamar’s is also offering free donuts.

And now, the infographic:

Readers, what is your favorite kind of donut? Let us know in the comments.

If Social Networks Battled Each Other on ‘Game of Thrones’ [Infographic]

Facebook and Twitter are at the center of an ongoing battle to control the social media landscape. To illustrate its role in bridging the two social networks, HootSuite has re-imagined the two companies as opposing houses on the HBO series “Game of Thrones.” This infographic shows the major attempts of each company to block the other and prevent media from one site from crossing over to the next. The social media winter is coming, HootSuite says, and Google+, LinkedIn, Vine, and Instagram are just a few of the casualties along the way. See more in the visualization below and please note that Twitter is currently working on giving Vine users sharing privileges on Facebook.

How Much Money Do YouTube Stars Make? [Infographic]

Billions of views on YouTube now equal millions of dollars for YouTube’s most successful partners, according to an estimate of how much advertising revenue YouTube’s top partners are earning with viral videos like “Harlem Shake” and “Gangnam Style.”

In 2010, the top-grossing YouTube partners were bringing in more than $100,000 per year. As of 2012, some of these video creators including The Annoying Orange and Smosh are making millions of dollars, while others like Ryan Higa and The Young Turks have pushed further into the six-figure range. Today, stars like Psy, whose channel has racked up 2.12 billion views for an estimated $5.9 million in revenue, can earn even more. In fact, one million views could bring in between 800 and 8,000 dollars for the person who uploads the video.

YouTube gives its content partners more than half of the ad revenue they bring in, and the types of ads they use in their videos may also be a factor in how much money they earn. Pre-roll ads, which lead into the beginning of the video, are believed to bring in $5 for every 1,000 views. Banner ads are arguably less obtrusive, but also bring in less money at an estimated $0.80 cents per 1,000 views.

See these and more statistics in the infographic below. Note that since YouTube has opened its partner program to everyone, the criteria for YouTube partnership are different now than the application process that’s shown here. Infographic by MoneySupermarket.com.

Will You Lose Your Job to Technology? [Infographic]

Can a robot do your job better than you can? Probably not now, but advancements in artificial intelligence will eventually make service jobs obsolete, according to the makers of this infographic.

Counting down from the future, the team at Staff.com has created a timeline of 7 professions that might not live to see another decade. If any of this is true, your future life will be in the hands of automated air traffic controllers, taxi drivers, parking attendants, travel agents, interpreters and translators, bookkeepers, and paralegals. Do you think machines will be up to the challenge?

A Mention on Google+ Drives More Sales Than One on Facebook, Study Finds

Google+ shares are more valuable to merchants than referrals from Twitter or Facebook, according to an analysis of $5 million worth of online purchases that came through the social commerce platform Addshoppers.com.

While Facebook claims the highest percentage of social revenue overall (38.76 percent), a referral from Google+ is worth an average of $10.78, compared to a Facebook referral at $2.35 and a Twitter referral at $1.62. Email shares were the most valuable at $17.93. Google+ users are most likely to share electronics, the researchers found.

The average order values, however, were highest on Tumblr, where popular categories include apparel and health. This infographic compares sharing statistics for Pinterest, StumbleUpon, Polyvore, and other popular platforms as well.
