I guess, Tumblr fans can calm down and realize New York Times’ associate magazine has joined Tumblr, covering the latest style and culture. I don’t think Tumblr is a journalistic platform. It’s perfect for blogging on the arts and being tightly-knit with the community, or introducing new songs from The Beastie Boys.

What’s black-and-white and green all over? The March/April 2011 Green Issue of women’s digital luxury magazine VIVmag.

The issue, timed to coincide with Women’s History Month in March and the 70th anniversary of Earth Day in April, is currently available for the iPad, iPhone, Mac, and PC, and it features an Old Hollywood-style black-and-white cover featuring Hot in Cleveland actress Jane Leeves, a “Greener Life” subscription contest, and environmentally themed content including articles on conscious choices for cleaning and greening the world; spring wardrobes and home-fashion favorites made of natural fibers; Earth-friendly fitness choices; and reducing carbon footprint with greener cuisine, as well as a book-review section highlighting titles about food and the environment.

The release of the issue was delayed by technical issues with the Zinio platform.

Variety confirmed news from Monday, originally reported by TheWrap.com, that it will launch a blog outside of its paywall and offered details about the new product, Showblitz, in an email:

Dear friend of Variety,

Variety is excited to present Showblitz, a breaking news blog designed with you in mind.

Showblitz is an up-to-the-minute, easy-to-digest showcase for Variety‘s best scoops and important entertainment news stories.

We realize that our paywall has discouraged sites like yours from linking to our content in the past, even when Variety breaks big showbiz stories. Showblitz gives you a way to let your users have access to an important source of news — and it also gives you an easy way to monitor a feed of Variety‘s exclusives and breaking news.

This is not a strategy shift for Variety.com. The paywall lives on. Each entry on Showblitz — short, timely, punchy and art-centric — will include links to the full stories within Variety.com. In fact, what better way to entice eventual new subscribers than great, compelling, timely, and newsy content they can’t get anywhere else?
