If you watched some of my recent iPad 2 video recording tests, you probably noticed the loud wind related noise in those videos. That problem got me thinking about the general issue of dealing with noise in recordings made outdoors. So, last night, I took an iPad, the Apple Camera Connection Kit USB interface, and [...]

iLounge reports that there are noticeable differences in the audio quality of the microphones in the three main iPad 2 models: WiFi-only, AT&T 3G and Verizon 3G. They report that the WiFi-only model provides the best audio quality followed by the AT&T 3G and Verizon 3G models in that order.

iPad 2 Wi-Fi, 3G models show microphone differences

I have a Verizon 3G iPad 2 and used the SoundNotes app to record Mini-podcast 22. I used its integrated microphone to record the first segment of the podcast. Then, I plugged in Apple’s In-ear headset with microphone to record the second segment. In my opinion the overall sound quality of the segment recorded with the integrated microphone sounded a bit better (fuller) than the sound recorded with the In-ear headset.

As I mention in the podcast, I do not have an iPad 2 WiFi-only or AT&T 3G model to use for comparisons. However, I did not find the sound quality of the recording to have any significant problems.

Podcast 46 was recorded on November 30, 2010. My special guest on this podcast is Adam Sloan who is the COO of The Buzz Killers. Adam and I spoke about their unique and very affordable ($7.50) Buzz Killer Card which eliminates the annoying GSM/3G (AT&T & T-Mobile phones) speaker buzz we often hear when a phone is near a computer speaker, baby monitor, or PA system speakers. The card is a passive device that does not require power of any kind. Adam explained that while speaker buzzing is eliminated (you can actually hear how it works in the podcast), the Buzz Killer Card does not prevent a phone from receiving a phone call or email while it sits on the card.

I have not tried using the Buzz Killer Card myself yet. However, evaluation samples are on their way to me. And, I’ll report my own findings as soon as a I have a chance to try the product.

-Owen Van Natta Headshot-This evening MySpace sent out a press release announcing that the company’s CEO, Owen Van Natta, is stepping down and will replaced by Mike Jones and Jason Hirschhorn who will serve as co-Presidents. There are a number of interesting components of this news story. The most interesting is that we’ve been hearing rumors that Owen Van Natta was under strict orders to turn the company and if it wasn’t turned around within 6 months he was out. The other interesting tidbit is that Techcrunch recently published that Jason Hirschhorn was exiting the company.

-TrialPay Logo-Earlier this week I had the opportunity to speak with Will O’Brien of TrialPay to discuss the company’s offering and the current state of offer-based advertising on the web. While there has been the argument that social applications don’t have effective monetization strategies, there’s no doubt that social games have already cracked the monetization nut and are bringing in significant revenue.
