What Every Social Media Marketer Should Know About Zoove

Their StarStar Codes make it as easy as remembering **YourName. continued…

That’s So Query for iPhone Rewards You For Predicting Popular Google Searches

Yet Another Social Network Transforms Into A Social Games Portal

Dutch-based social networking site Hyves, which has a majority share of users in Holland, has announced plans to transform its site into a game portal in partnership with game developer Spil games. The news was reported by the Dutch Daily News, and while details are slim, this represents another social network turning to games to keep its users from defecting to Facebook.

Kevin Rose's First Order of Battle as Digg CEO, Get Rid of iFrame Toolbar

A couple of days ago, Kevin Rose took the CEO post at Digg and shortly after assuming the post Kevin’s first order of battle was to get rid of the controversial Digg toolbar aka DiggBar. Kevin announced it via the Digg blog:

Framing content with an iFrame is bad for the Internet. It causes confusion when bookmarking, breaks w/iFrame busters, and has no ability to communicate with the lower frame (if you browse away from a story, the old digg count still persists). It’s an inconsistent/wonky user experience, and I’m happy to say we are killing it when we launch the new Digg (sign up for the beta here).

Just like Twitter, social networking apps are probably going to be the most sought after applications for the iPad. So, I scour the social networking category of the iPad App Store to search for the newest apps available that were made specifically for the iPad and found seven of them.
I am merely sharing my opinion on why I am shutting the gadget out of my life. Your thoughts are welcome in the comments section below.

April Fools' Prank on Woot

We all have our morning routines. Some people pour a cup of coffee before their day begins. Others stretch and jump into the shower. Me…well I turn on my computer and head to Woot. You might think that’s a nerd routine, but I have good company. Over four million people join me each month, hoping to snag the “deal of the day” before it sells out.

For April Fools’ Day, Woot has temporarily re-branded itself as “Woot Your Own Adventure.” Rather than selling a single item, there are a series of multiple choices to select from. Depending on which you select, you will navigate along a path of products. You could uncover an LCD TV, MP3 player, remote control cars, Barbie products and more. It reminds me of those Which-Way books I read as a kid. continued…

Flickr Videos Are Ready For iPad To Arrive

Flickr just reported that they are launching HTML5 video playback for all videos they store. Officially iPad arrives on Saturday and, as it doesn’t support Flash, playing videos will be a huge issue. Flickr was using Flash for displaying videos as well, but they have worked to solve this problem and with HTML5 video, you will be able to enjoy all Flickr content without any problems.

They claim that visitors using iPad will be automatically switched to HTML5 player when stumbling on a video. Visitors will be able to enjoy HD content as well.

Apple says iPad will provide ultimate browsing experience and Flash powered content is huge part of the Internet today. Without having Flash support Apple cuts off great deal of content out there. Mayor players like YouTube and now Flickr have found solution for their video content, no doubt that other sites will be forced to adopt as well.

Bing Maps' Foursquare Everywhere App Plots Where You Check-In

Previously, it was reported that Microsoft is teaming up with one of the most popular, if not that most popular location-aware service Foursquare by integrating Bing Maps into Foursquare. Now, that team up has produced this new app called Foursquare Everywhere.

Foursquare Everywhere is a Bing map application that plots all the check-ins of Foursquare members. Yes, you read it right folks, all your Foursquare check-ins are now being plotted to Bing Maps through this app. But don’t worry, the check-in data that are being plotted on Bing Maps won’t display anything about you. The app is interested only with the numerous check-ins that Foursquare members are making from their mobile phone. continued…

New Twitter Homepage: Leaving Us Behind?

Now that I’ve had 24 hours to live with the new Twitter homepage, I’ve come to the following conclusion: it’s still all about Justin Bieber.

With over 20 million unique visitors a month, it’s amazing it took the site this long to move away from a static homepage that told users absolutely nothing about the service or what was waiting for them once the logged in.

The revamped homepage is dominated by Top Tweets, showing you what celebs and other “important” Twitter uses are saying. I don’t like the fact that the focus is being taken away from the Average Joe user. I’d like more info on how these “Top Tweets” are being selected. Quite frankly, I don’t care that you just ate a tuna sandwich and I definitely don’t care what some spoiled celeb is up to. I also have noticed that the majority of these tweets are several hours old, which in the rapid-fire world of 140-characters, seems like yesterday. continued…

Alright, lets go back to business. Like I said, the iTunes App Store now has its own Facebook page. It was developed and powered by a company called Vitrue. And it basically puts the Apps Store inside Facebook allowing you to search apps, share cool apps with friends or to simply look out for the hottest apps that you will most likely install on your iPhone. continued…

Penises, Girls and Lollipops, General Weirdness: A Chatroulette Primer

I’m no longer a Chatroulette virgin. And truth be told, I waited for my wife to leave the house before I logged on. Don’t know if that makes me an official creep, but I had no idea what to expect.

I should have known better.

While I still marvel at how far technology has come in my lifetime, I also marvel at how sick and perverted so many Internet users are.

Ripe for the sexual deviants who peruse the classifieds at the back of the Village Voice or the trolls on Craigslist, Chatroulette puts a face, or a penis, on the conversation.

What is Chatroulette?

With no login or registration, Chatroulette pairs up random strangers to have a Webcam chat. If you don’t like what you see or where the conversation is going, you can “NEXT” a person with the click of a button. This will initiate a new session with another stranger. Aside from video, paired folks can text chat too.

Chatroulette was founded by Andrey Ternovskiy, a 17-year-old Moscow-based high school student, who is currently traveling the world and entertaining 7-digit offers for the site and/or future plans.

The site generates revenue thanks to a partnership with online dating Websites.

What to expect.

This site is not for the faint of heart. Roulette in Vegas gives you a 1 in 38 chance to land on your number, with Chatroulette, the number of possibilities are endless. In other words, there is no way to predict what you will see. And that’s the appeal. continued…

Visualization of Geolocation App War At SXSW

SXSW was the excellent event to see how people adopt and use geolocation apps, predicted to be new trend this year. As you can see form visualization provided by SimpleGeo people really like theses apps and in Austin they was widely used.

Data for the visualization was taken from eight different sources – FourSquare, Gowalla, Twitter, Flickr, Bump, Brightkite, BlockChalk, and Fwix. Information used in video was previously shown as a live datastream during the festival at http://austin.vicarious.ly/. As we all expected, Foursquare and Gowalla was most popular apps for “checking-in”, sending geo-tagged messages or pictures. Currently these two are fighting for the market and this war, I think, is forcing innovation in this field at higher rate, which of course is good for us – users.

SimpleGeo tweeted that they will also provide numbers for geolocation app usage at SXSW.
