‘Tis the season for writing Year-in-Review pieces, and CNET News has a big one focused exclusively on Google:
“If Google were an adolescent lad, 2007 would mark the year his voice cracked.”
The article goes on to detail Google’s tremendous wireless ambitions and push into the mobile space, not to mention the $3.1 billion DoubleClick merger, its online ad network purchases of Right Media and Blue Lithium, and its bid on the FCC’s 700 MHz wireless spectrum auction, the latter of which could make Google a direct competitor to Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T.
This is in start contrast to number two and three search engines Yahoo and Microsoft, both of which have struggled to maintain relevancy even as Google’s search dominance further solidified.
