AdAge published an article about CNN.com’s startling growth compared with CNN (the TV channel).
As CNN’s TV viewership declines, the companion Web site is cruising along with 26 million unique monthly visitors, a 25% jump from last year. More telling is the fact that they have 90 million subscribers on mobile. That’s an incredible number when you consider that an average of just 383,000 households tuned in to CNN TV per day last year, a drop of almost half compared with the year 2003.
“We’re all pretty convinced that news doesn’t break on TV anymore,” said Eric Bader, senior VP-managing director of digital connections at MediaVest, in the article. “Almost everybody across pretty much every economic and age demographic learns of breaking news online, increasingly on mobile.”
