Nokia is mulling the possibility of a DRM-free version of its Comes With Music unlimited mobile music service, Mobile Entertainment reports. At the Comes With Music launch in Singapore, a Nokia exec reportedly told the crowd that DRM-free is “on the roadmap for the future integration of Comes With Music.”
Comes With Music is a first-of-its-kind service that comes free with select Nokia handsets, provides unlimited download and playback on that device and a single PC, and allows users to keep all the music they’ve downloaded even if they don’t re-up after their year of free service is up.
Stripping out the DRM would mean the tracks could be played on any device. This isn’t something the labels will likely allow for an unlimited service, so don’t hold your breath.
