Commentator Andrei Codrescu Dislikes Highlighted Kindle Passages

Commentator Andrei Codrescu does not appreciate Kindle’s feature “View Popular Highlights,” in which you can see what passages are highlighted in an eBook.

In the above clip from NPR, Codrescu says: “I don’t know about you, but I always hated underlined passages in used books, they derail my private enjoyment with somebody else’s perception of what’s important, something moronic usually, which is why I always prefer buying my books new, so I can make my own moronic marks.”

He does not appreciate the ability to view popular highlights in his eBooks. “Not only do you not own the book you paid for, the entire experience of reading is shattered by the presence of a mob that agitates inside your text like strangers in a train station.”
