Have you heard of cone-ing? Also known as coning or coneing, Urban Dictionary defines it as, “The art of grabbing a McDonalds ice cream cone from the ice cream end just to weird out the McDonalds worker.” Cone-ing was a major trend this summer on YouTube, but now that McDonald’s employees are catching on, it looks like the cone-ing trend is coming to an end.
If you’re not familiar with cone-ing, check out the mother of all cone-ing videos below. Created by YouTuber Alki Stevens, who also happens to be the creator of the trend, ‘Cone-ing Is The New Planking’ has been viewed over 6 million times this summer.
After Alki Stevens’ video went viral, cone-ing started to spread, with cone-ing videos popping up from McDonalds’ drive-thrus all over the world. But a couple of new videos that are going viral today seem to indicate that cone-ing has seen its heyday.
It looks like McDonalds employees, now familiar with the trend, have come up with all sorts of methods to prevent these cone-ing hooligans from grabbing their ice cream cone by the ice cream. They are warning young people ordering ice cream cones and even going so far as to cover the ice cream with a cup so that it’s impossible to grab the cone ice cream-first. But if you ask me, I think these anti-coneing videos may be more entertaining than the original prank, with McDonalds employees getting the last laugh.
Check out the videos below and let us know what you think. What’s your take on the cone-ing trend? Do you think it will live on or will anti-coneing McDonalds employees put an end to it for good?
