Convert Your Handwriting into Digital Text

Do you love taking notes by hand? Using the TruGlide Stylus and Notes Plus for the iPad, this editor managed to digitize his scribbled notes (handwriting screenshot embedded above).

This editor has always dreamed of a way to convert his chicken scratch handwriting into a digital format, hoping to someday digitize years worth of journals. In fact, he drafted an early form of this post using Notes Plus, a stylus and an iPad. You can see our original handwriting above and the handwriting translation below.

If you want to do this at home, we’ve outlined the six step process below…

You can see our original handwriting above. Here is a screenshot of how our scribbled handwriting was converted by the app…

How To Translate Your Handwritten Notes on an iPad

1. Get a stylus. We’ve had strong results with a review copy of the TruGlide Stylus. Check out our round-up of other stylus recommendations at this link.

2. Buy the $3.99 Notes Plus from the App Store.

3. Once you have installed the app, you need to make a $1.99 in-app purchase of the the handwriting recognition tool. You can purchase the handwriting tool by clicking the “Tools” icon in the upper left hand corner of the app’s screen.

4. Open a blank page and start scribbling notes.

5. Draw a circle around the text you want to translate (screenshot below).

6. Click the “Covert to Text” button. Once the handwriting has been converted, choose your favorite font or cut and paste the text into a document (screenshot below).

Finally, we discussed the app in more depth on the Morning Media Menu today. Tune in at the four-minute mark for more details…
