Cox Newspapers, a publisher for 17 daily and 26 other newspapers, has teamed up with Quattro Wireless to launch 19 mobile newspaper Web sites, MediaPost reports, that will let the publications offer breaking news, weather, sports scores and listings for businesses and events to cell phone subscribers.
The report said that as part of the deal, Quattro is providing Cox with expertise and services including ad operations and sales, according to Tonya Echols, the executive director of CoxNet-Cox Newspapers.
Cox’s announcement is the latest in a series of moves by newspapers and news organizations to leverage mobile technology more effectively—such as the Associated Press‘s move back in April to launch a mobile news network, according to the report.
