Cuil VP (and Google Search Pioneer) Bolts

Well, that sure didn’t take long. Less than one month after Cuil‘s disastrous product launch, which basically showed that building and releasing a genuine competitor to Google Search is much, much harder than it looks, VP of Product Louis Monier has left the company.

As TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington writes, “This is a big blow to the troubled search engine—Monier was recruited away from Google a year ago, where he was working on advanced search products. Prior to Google he was the head of search at eBay and was the cofounder and CTO of AltaVista. He is widely considered to be one of the founding fathers of Internet search…”

The report said that it is rumored Monier and Cuil CEO Tom Costello couldn’t agree on a product roadmap. We’d start with “something that delivers relevant search results.”
